Bio
Jonathan Shuter, MD, is a physician-scientist and a practicing infectious diseases subspecialist at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he is currently a tenured Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Epidemiology & Population Health. Since 1998, he has been the Director of Clinical Research in the Montefiore Medical Center AIDS Center in the Bronx, New York, and much of his research is driven by the observations that he makes in his day-to-day interactions with persons with HIV.
Dr. Shuter’s primary research interest involves tobacco use in persons with HIV, and he is the recipient of multiple NIH and foundation grants, from NCI, NIDA, NHLBI, and the American Legacy Foundation/Truth Initiative, in support of his scientific pursuits. In more recent years, his research has extended beyond the borders of the US to include cessation trials for smokers with HIV in Kenya, Vietnam, and India.
