Bio
David Davis, LMSW, is a healthcare professional with over 13 years’ experience in the tobacco field, including his current role as CAI’s Director of Tobacco Control Health Initiatives. In his capacity he directs a state-wide initiative funded by the New York State Bureau of Tobacco Control to set an agenda and foster implementation of state-wide policy and systems change to improve access to and quality of tobacco use treatment services in primary and behavioral healthcare settings; and leads an initiative in Jackson, Mississippi to foster development and implementation of community-designed strategies to prevent and reduce tobacco use.
He has an extensive experience working across sectors and with diverse partners and stakeholders to provide technical assistance, achieve shared goals, and build health and resilience in communities and populations that have been historically neglected by public health efforts. The National Center of Excellence for Tobacco-Free Recovery represents a culmination of his work in the public health field, specifically in the tobacco and behavioral health fields, and commitment to serving the Black/African American community in the fight against the pervasive impacts of racism and historical trauma.
